Homemade Warm Delights Recipe (Easy Microwave Mug Cake)

1 box cake mix (any flavor)
1 box instant pudding mix (any flavor)

Mix the 2 boxes together and store in a container. When ready to make, mix the following:

1 cup mix
1 egg
1 tablespoon water
1 tablespoon cooking oil

Mix all in an oversized microwave safe mug (soup bowl with a handle). At this point you can put a dab of frosting, caramel or hot fudge sauce, jam, chocolate chips, marshmallow or peanut butter on top of batter. Microwave for one minute. When done you have cake for one. My son always wants me to buy Warm Delights but they are way too expensive. And we never eat a whole cake.

This recipe looks great. I was wondering about those Warm Delights I saw in the store, but I think I will try this instead. Thanks.

Do you use the 4 serving or the 6 serving box of pudding?

Candy this wasn’t one of my recipes but usually for something like this the 4 serving size is what you need.

This sounds wonderful! I am giving this recipe to my mom who is a widow and is always looking for single serving type things to make. This will save her a lot of money (and time!). She does not make cakes anymore since they would usually go to waste. Thanks for posting this!

i tried this the other night. i have a 18 month old and a 3 year old they loved it. it was very moist. i make one and we all share it. that way i feel like i am getting half the calories and they are getting a treat they love. cake goes to waist around our house as well so this was perfect.

Here is a homemade version that does not require a cake mix. I don’t have a mug large enough for this recipe. It overflowed the first time I made it. Now I use my smallest glass mixing bowl (4 cups).

    5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE
4 tablespoons flour (equals 1/4 cup)
4 tablespoons sugar (equals 1/4 cup)
    2 tablespoons cocoa
    1 egg
    3 tablespoons milk
    3 tablespoons oil
    3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
A small splash of vanilla extract
    1 large coffee mug (MicroSafe)

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again. Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts. (Cake was done in 2 minutes in my microwave–3 minutes produced a chewier brownie-like version.)

The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don’t be alarmed!

Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).

And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world?
Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!

This is sooooo true Terri. I feel like am not setting a good example and am enabling chocoholics like me on a daily basis. When it comes to chocolate I have no virtue. I have even stolen my kids Halloween and Christmas candy. When they got to a certain age they learned to hid it. Boy confession is good for the soul. HA!HA!

        You crack me up.
I have stolen candy from my kids and I have my own hidden stashes, so no one can find it.
A few of my hiding places have been discovered over the years, but not all! I’ve become an expert at camouflaging it, almost in plain sight in some cases.

Too funny Jan. Now I don’t feel so guilty. : ) My poor children always hid their candy from me. One year my poor son could not win for losing. He hid his candy from me under his bed. We walked in the door after having been gone for a bit and could not figure out why the dog did not come to greet us. As we walked past my sons room and the dog had his head poking out from under the bed with what looked like a cigarette in his mouth. It wasn’t it was a Tootsie Roll pop with the white stick sticking out. So much for my son’s candy that year. Poor guy.

P.S. Use self-rising flour in the 5 minute chocolate cake recipe!

If you don’t have self rising flour on hand we have the recipe for it in Dining.
      4 cups flour
      2 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. double acting baking powder

Mix well and store in air tight container.

I have an even simpler version: 1/2 cup cake mix, 1/4 c. water, mix in a cereal bowl, microwave for one minute. This one is the same size as Warm Delights. For more details, here’s my whole version:
    “Warm Delights” copycat recipe
½ cup any flavor cake mix
    1/4 cup water
Microwave in a bowl for 1 minute, let stand a few minutes to cool. If you like, add before cooking: 1 Tbsp. chocolate chips/chunks or a few Hershey’s kisses for Molten Chocolate, a few unwrapped, quartered caramels, a generous sprinkle of cinnamon sugar lightly swirled in; use your imagination! After baking add caramel topping, lemon sauce, fudge sauce, whatever sounds good. For upside-down German Chocolate, mix together 1-2 Tbsp. cream cheese, 1 tsp. sugar, and 1-2 tsp. coconut. Dollop on top before cooking the cake.
One cake mix will yield about 9 of these. Or use Bisquick: 1/3 c. mix, 1 ½ Tbsp. sugar, 1 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa with 1/4 cup water.

If you want this in an easy-to-print document, go to https://docs.google.com/document/edit?id=1JFqudw5y9kUL84MK-qxLFLjrjj6KkEouh6ysKCf5FPw&hl=en The recipe is about 2/3 the way through the document.

We have a family favorite cake that is so simple. It’s call triple chocolate cake.
    1 box chocolate cake mix
1 box chocolate pudding mix-the kind you cook. (I only know of two size boxes, a small one and a larger one. Use the larger of the two sizes.)
1/4 – 1/2 cup chocolate chips according to taste.

Cook up the pudding mix according to the directions.
    Mix into the cake mix.
Pour into 13 x 9 cake pan prepared according to the cake box directions.
Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the cake batter in the pan.
Bake according to directions on the cake mix box. Serve warm or cooled, if you can keep everyone’s paws off of it!

To make more special, serve with a dollop of whipped cream or sprinkle with powdered sugar.

A variation we have made for those who don’t eat chocolate: Use a lemon cake mix, lemon pudding mix and yoghurt chips. That is yummy too! If you can’t find lemon pudding mix that is cooked, use vanilla and add lemon flavoring. This is yummy too! My daughters-in-law request these.

Thank you for reminding of this simple recipe!

Just in case you wondered: when developing this recipe, I tried it with oil, without out, with egg, and without egg. The oil doesn’t make much difference because you’re eating the cake when it’s so fresh and moist. The egg makes it rise a little bit higher, but not enough for me to want to mess with.

I tried the cake with 6 oz. of pudding (both chocolate)Too much! I suggest using 4 oz. of pudding. I also put it in a big soup bowl rather than a cup – I think it worked better. Just enough for my 2 grandkids & me. I think I will try vanilla cake mix & coconut pudding next. Oh the possibilities!

i love cake but its just too big or much for us anymore .. so now when i want to make a cake i get a pkg of those small loaf pans and make a cake and split it up 2 or 3 ways … and share with friends and family …
same thing with a container of icing ..
a nice warm treat for us and sharing is good too …
my son in law and daughter love when i do this .. they have no time to bake a cake and well, do not wish to buy a cake made or the slices that the store sells (one slice is about the price of a box of cake and the icing) ..
just a thought to share with everyone ..

I like Rose’s idea. My favorite cake is chocolate mayonnaise cake (and w/egg prices rising, I’ll be using it more), made into small loaf pans. I freeze, then if I just have one person or two over for lunch, I already have a small desert w/no leftovers. I just make a simple white icing with powdered sugar, butter, vanilla, and maybe a little cream cheese if I have it, simple and inexpensive, and most people love chocolate cake!

Lee I adjusted the recipe so it explains better. What it was talking about is you can add a spoon full of anything you want at this point. Things like caramel or hot fudge sauce, frosting, marshmallow, chocolate chips, jam, peanut butter, a caramel or Hershey’s kiss. A Hershey’s mint kiss would be so good if you like mint and chocolate. Sorry for the mix up.
